This Journal of Singing article “Intubation Considerations for Singers” published in 2012 was co-authored by Dr. Kunal Gangopodhyay, a noted anesthesiologist and otolaryngologist. Singers must always be mindful of vocal health, including intubation considerations before any surgery. Surgical intubation can be problematic for singers; however, there are pre-and postsurgical strategies that can help to mitigate potential vocal health concerns. This article provides considerations for a singer before short-term intubation.

One must not underestimate the importance of making it clear in advance of surgery that you are a singer.
